Golf carts are considered motor vehicles in the State of Texas. Please observe the following traffic laws when using golf carts on public roads.
Key Requirements:
Speed Limit: Golf carts may not travel on roads with speed limits of 35 mph or greater.
Driver Credentials: Operators need a valid driver’s license and proper insurance as required by Texas law.
Licence Plate: License plates must be displayed visibly. The fee for a license plate is $10 and does not expire.
Residents of Denton County can purchase license plates from the Tax Office.
Vehicle Equipment:
Every golf cart must have:
Two headlamps and two tail lamps
Turn signals visible from both front and rear
Side reflectors (amber at the front, red at the back)
A functioning parking brake
Rearview mirror(s)
A slow-moving vehicle emblem on the rear (orange triangle)

Operating Guidelines:
Stay on the Right: Keep your cart on the right side of the road and yield to faster-moving vehicles.
No Lane Splitting: Do not drive between lanes or between rows of parked vehicles.
Proper Crossings: Only cross at intersections controlled by traffic signals or stop signs.
Parking Rules: Park only in designated motor vehicle areas. Golf carts should not block pedestrian walkways or park in spaces reserved for disabled persons unless you have a valid placard.
Usage Restrictions: Golf carts should not be used for towing or used on pedestrian sidewalks.
